Long-term sediment management programme supporting healthier water conditions, healthier fish and a more resilient aquatic ecosystem while maintaining uninterrupted operation of the recreational fishery

Project overview

Surrounded by Austrian countryside, KOI Kulinarik am Teich is a unique recreational destination where fishing, hospitality and nature come together.

The site attracts anglers, walkers and restaurant guests throughout the year, making healthy water fundamental to both the visitor experience and long-term business success.

As the owner explains:

We live within nature here, and every season has its own charm. It's really important that everything is presented at its very best. For the restaurant, for the walkers and above all, for the fishermen. Clean water is essential for everyone here.

But water quality and ecosystem health began deteriorating as organic sediment accumulated. Working alongside long-standing partner Alles Fisch, Oase implemented an in-place restoration strategy using SchlixX Plus®, helping support healthier water conditions without the need for disruptive dredging.

Understanding the site

The fishery comprises three interconnected ponds covering approximately 22 hectares, with the largest extending across 11 hectares.

Managing a water body of this scale requires a long-term approach. Organic matter naturally accumulates over time, increasing sludge levels and placing greater pressure on the aquatic ecosystem.

Recognising these challenges, the owner approached long-standing Oase partner Alles Fisch for support.

As the team explains:

The client got in touch with me because she was experiencing major problems with sludge in the pond.

The restoration strategy

Mechanical dredging is often considered the traditional solution for excessive sediment accumulation.

Rather than accepting ongoing deterioration, the focus shifted towards restoring the ponds from within using a long-term sediment management strategy capable of improving water quality while protecting the existing fish population and minimising disruption to the business.

Working together, Alles Fisch and Oase implemented a restoration programme using SchlixX Plus®. It combines mineral technology with an enhanced microbiological blend that supports the natural breakdown of accumulated organic sediment while encouraging healthier biological conditions throughout the water body.

Given the size of the ponds, the product was prepared on-site before being distributed evenly by boat across the water surface.

Importantly, SchlixX Plus is designed to work safely within active fisheries, without harming fish populations or interrupting day-to-day operations.

SchlixX Plus supports the pond ecosystem and is completely safe for fish. It can be used at any time where fish are present.

A partnership built around water quality

The project builds upon a long-standing relationship between Alles Fisch and Oase.

Beyond restoration treatments, the partnership includes ongoing aeration, pond care and regular monitoring of key water quality parameters, helping ensure the management strategy continues to evolve alongside the needs of the fishery.

We have enjoyed a close partnership with Oase for many years. They handle water aeration, pond care and continuously monitor various water quality parameters. It's a very productive collaboration.

By combining local expertise with Oase's restoration technologies, the programme was tailored to the unique characteristics of the site.

Supporting long-term success

The goal was to reduce sludge, but also create healthier water conditions capable of supporting the fishery, the surrounding ecosystem and the business that depends upon it.

Rather than relying on reactive maintenance, the restoration programme is designed to strengthen the natural processes that help keep the ponds healthy over the long term.

As the owner concludes:

"Healthy water creates the best conditions for healthy fish, a sustainable ecosystem and, of course, for a successful business."

Looking ahead

Healthy water is fundamental to every successful fishery.

By restoring the conditions that support healthier aquatic ecosystems, KOI Kulinarik am Teich is investing not only in the future of its ponds, but in the experience of every angler, visitor and guest who comes to enjoy them.

This project demonstrates how long-term restoration strategies can help create healthier water, healthier fish and stronger businesses without relying on disruptive interventions.
