Show Fountain, Wangjing SOHO, Beijing
Rather than creating a single landmark fountain, the concept centred on a connected water experience across the entire development.
The challenge
Designed by Zaha Hadid, the flowing forms of the Wangjing SOHO Towers demanded a water feature that could match the ambition and character of the surrounding architecture.
The objective was not simply to install a fountain, but to create a landmark attraction that would integrate seamlessly into the public realm while delivering a world-class entertainment experience.
The system needed to achieve significant fountain heights, remain visually unobtrusive when inactive, and support highly sophisticated water choreographies.
The design concept
Meeting the project's ambitions required a fully customised fountain solution built around Oase technology.
To achieve the desired fountain heights and dynamic effects, the system combines powerful pumps with specialised water effects, including steam-explosion style features capable of creating dramatic moments within the show. These large-volume effects required innovative engineering to conceal equipment beneath the water surface while maintaining precise water level control.
A specially designed water storage and control system continuously adjusts water levels in real time, ensuring seamless operation throughout every performance. Sensitive monitoring systems and bespoke programming allow the fountain to react instantly while maintaining visual consistency.
Delivering the project
The client played an active role throughout the development process, helping shape the final show experience and reviewing software simulations in exceptional detail.
To ensure flawless execution, the entire fountain system was modelled and tested using detailed 3D animation. This allowed Oase to visualise and refine a highly complex pipeline network spanning more than 316 metres before installation began.
The result was a technically sophisticated fountain system delivered with complete confidence and accuracy.
The results
A water show in harmony with Beijing
The completed installation delivers a constantly evolving experience that mirrors the architectural language of Wangjing SOHO.
Energetic sequences create moments of excitement and spectacle, while softer water curtains and flowing effects introduce periods of calm and reflection. The fountain becomes part waterfall, part stream and part performance, creating a dynamic focal point within the business district.
A destination within a destination
The fountain has become one of the defining attractions of Wangjing SOHO and a recognized landmark within Beijing.
Visitors actively seek out show times to experience the performances, while photographs and videos of the fountain continue to be widely shared across social media platforms. The installation has helped strengthen Wangjing's identity as one of Beijing's most vibrant commercial destinations.
