Interactive Fountain at Waltham Forest, London, United Kingdom
Opening the Town Hall to the Community
The regeneration of Fellowship Square aimed to transform Waltham Forest Town Hall from a largely administrative site into a vibrant civic and cultural destination at the heart of the community. The large central fountain would be the focal point of this transformation.
The Challenge
The existing fountain offered little opportunity for interaction.
Its replacement needed to draw people into the square, encourage them to engage with the water and allow the space to host everything from everyday gatherings to markets, performances, festivals and outdoor cinema.
Delivering the project: innovating beyond the standard range
A vision expanded beyond expectation
Working closely with Ocmis, Oase developed a larger ProfiPlane RGB XL light with a bespoke square grille to integrate into the surface of the square.
Shortened variants of the Cluster Eco 15-38 were also developed to meet the project's installation requirements.
What began as a bespoke lighting solution for Fellowship Square was later developed into a product in Oase's standard range.
The result: a square brought to life
On warm days, children play between the fountain jets. During cultural events and community celebrations, the water and light displays animate the square.
No longer just a visual centerpiece, the fountain has become part of how people experience Fellowship Square.
Waltham Forest Council reports that the square attracts hundreds of visitors each day, with the fountain proving especially popular.
